biography
Hey!
My name is Kai McDonald, and I am an Asian-American narrative and game designer living in the greater Seattle area. My strengths lie in all things narrative, from story pacing and overall plot to character dialog and believable inter-character interactions. I also enjoy User Research, Systems Design, and Encounter Design. I have worked on games made with custom C++ engines and games made both in Unreal Engine 4 and Unity3D.
I’m currently working at Jam City on Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery as an Associate Game Designer II.
I have received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Game Design from DigiPen Institute of Technology April 2020.
In the before times, I enjoyed singing, and was often involved in whatever choirs I could find myself a part of. I enjoy playing table-top role-playing games online with my friends, cuddling with my lovely cryptid of a cat named Roswell, playing with my roommate’s lovable dog named Calliope, reading comic books, and obsessing over whatever is my current “favorite show” of the week.
My cultural heritages are an important part of who I am. I identify neither as only Asian or only White, but as a Biracial blend of both. I always find it funny when identifying questions only let me pick one option when it comes to disclosing race. I love learning about ancient Japanese, Scottish, and Irish cultures, and have a soft spot for Japanese ghost stories.
Hearing stories told by others is another one of my favorite pastimes. I am constantly inspired to tell motivating and captivating stories to others in any way I can.
