All seems quiet on a train traveling through the countryside until the lights flicker and go out. Live through a story of survival in the poetic experience Countryside.


Design Goals

Storytelling through level design

  • Paths through the game should be linear and guiding, preventing players from missing or skipping anything.

  • Both levels in the game should have emotional ups and downs to compliment the game’s narrative.

  • The game’s narrative should be told mostly through experience, rather than through dialogue.

Engaging without mechanics

  • A sense of curiosity and a desire for survival should be the main motivators for the player.

  • Interesting and dynamic locations that keep the player engaged.

  • Ever increasing odds encourage the player to move forward.

Immersive but deliverable

  • Create a layout and mental picture of a game that could work just as well with higher quality, professional visuals

  • Augment the unimpressive visuals with unique locations that are given life with particles and lighting.

  • Create a simplistic but easily readable visual style that is still somewhat aesthetically pleasing.
